The story takes place in an undefined, not too distant future. Fourteen-year-old Ani is a sensitive child who can’t seem to find his place in the real world, so he escapes into the imaginary world, a self-created samurai story in which he himself is a brave and defiant hero. Harassed by his peers, following a suicide attempt, he ends up in a psychiatric hospital on an island. The hospital turns out to be a gloomy place with prison rigor and harsh conditions.
At first, heartbroken, Ani meets an older Roxi on the ward, who hides a dark secret, and other kids who slowly become his friends. They share a common secret. They find their way to the former hospital building at the end of the island and set up their base there. The young patients begin to hide from the horrors of reality in the world of unbridled imagination. The line between what’s real and the worlds they invented is starting to blur.
